National water agency PUB launches Water Conservation Campaign 2025, inviting Singaporeans to reflect on 60 years of our Water Story even as we forge ahead to ensure water security and resilience in an era of climate change
Singapore, 8 March 2025 – National water agency PUB’s annual Water Conservation Campaign, launched this month in conjunction with the Singapore World Water Day celebrations (SWWD 2025), turns the spotlight towards our water’s critical role in all facets of Singapore’s growth as the nation, in tandem with Singapore’s SG60 celebrations this year. Titled ‘Our Water Makes Every Moment Count’, the campaign reminds Singaporeans to cherish and conserve our water, by showcasing the central role of water in the country’s development and in our daily lives.
2 Launched on 6 March, the campaign kicked off with a heartwarming short film, featuring a beloved National Day song “Home”, to underscore the importance of water in making home feel like home. Through authentic moments shared between friends, family and the community, the film brings to life the crucial role that water plays in sustaining everyday life, safeguarding traditions and enabling our favorite pastimes.
3 “Over the past 60 years, water has played a significant role in charting our journey in nation-building. As our water story continues to evolve, now is the right moment for us to reflect on how far water has brought us - not just as a nation, but also as individuals and communities. Water flows through everything we’ve built, and it remains a precious resource that will sustain our growth and prosperity. Let us cherish it and continue to make every moment count,” said Mrs Cindy Keng, Director of PUB’s 3P Network Department.
SWWD Celebration Event
4 This year, the SWWD celebration event will be brought closer to the heartlands and will be held at Our Tampines Hub over two days on 8 and 9 March 2025. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Gan Kim Yong, attended the celebration event as Guest of Honour. Members of the public will have the opportunity to revisit the milestones and groundbreaking moments of our Water Story through the event exhibit. These milestones have laid the foundation for our water journey, and is a testament to the bold vision, ingenuity and strong can-do spirit demonstrated by our pioneers, as they worked towards securing a sustainable water future for Singapore. Please refer to the Annex for more information on ‘Our Water Story’ exhibit.
5 Our community, school and corporate partners such as Tampines West Green Action for Communities, Ngee Ann Secondary School and Amazon Web Services will be setting up booths featuring water conservation activities and initiatives, enabling participants to learn more about positive water saving practices in a fun and interactive manner. The public can also redeem the Water Saver Pack during the SWWD celebration event at Our Tampines Hub on 8 and 9 March 2025. Please refer to the Annex for more information on the list of partner booths at the celebration event.
6 In support of SWWD 2025, over 400 partners ranging from schools, community organisations and corporate partners will be organising a host of activities across the whole month of March to promote better appreciation of our water and reinforce the importance of water conservation. Wellington Primary School, a long-time SWWD partner, will collaborate with Thomson Plaza to engage the community through student-designed games and activities. Our corporate partners - Yew Tee Point, Micron and STMicroelectronics will also be conducting tours for the community to visit our waterways and reservoirs, fostering greater community appreciation of water. Please refer to the Infosheet for the list of partner activities organised in conjunction with SWWD 2025.
New initiatives to encourage water conservation
7 To secure our water future, it is crucial that we continue to explore new and innovative ways for our water conservation efforts across households and industries.
Reducing Water Consumption at Home
8 The per capita household water consumption in 2024 was 142 litres per day, a slight increase from the 141 litres in 2023. To further support households in lowering their water consumption, PUB is exploring partnership opportunities with private sector organisations on a new Water Savings Programme for selected 1 to 3 room HDB households. As part of the programme, inefficient water fittings will be replaced with more effective and sustainable alternatives, thereby improving water efficiency. More details on the programme will be announced at a later date.
Introduction of Water-Efficient High-Pressure Washers (HPWs) across Town Councils
9 PUB recently concluded trials with Marine Parade and Marsiling-Yew Tee Town Council(s) to use water-efficient high-pressure washers (HPWs) for cleaning common areas such as pavements and HDB corridors. Following the positive trial results, PUB will work with town councils across Singapore to progressively switch to using these water-efficient high-pressure washers, estimated to be 20% more water efficient than conventional washers. When implemented, this initiative will potentially yield savings of up to 2.5 million gallons of water per day (mgd), equivalent to 4 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
