Capitalising on the vast presence of schools in the vicinity, the project is conceptualized as "river classroom" to allow experiential learning for students. This project is extended beyond the rivers, and showcases the importance of treating rainwater run-off from the surrounding catchment before entering the waterway. Besides incorporating ABC Waters design features, gathering decks are built to serve as an outdoor classroom space. The project has also retained much of its existing greenery.
The tributary drain leads into a marshland which is made up of wetland plantings at the edge. Plants are specially chosen for their ability to absorb nutrients, so that stormwater runoff is cleansed naturally before it is being discharged into Sungei Pandan.
The marshland also creates a natural habitat for dragonflies, birds and fishes, enriching the biodiversity along our river edges and beautifying the surrounding landscape. By keeping our water in the drain and in the marshland litter-free, residents can enjoy a scenic view of Sungei Pandan.
