Under the ABC Waters Programme, a 390-metre section of the Kallang River subsidiary drain that runs along Lorong 8 Toa Payoh has been given a makeover. Residents can now enjoy new facilities such as a timber boardwalk, a green roof shelter and a fitness corner that provide new community spaces for bonding by the waterway.
ABC Waters design features such as rain gardens have also been incorporated along the waterway. The rain gardens use specially selected plants and soil media to detain and cleanse rainwater runoff before it is channelled into the waterway. Besides improving the water quality of rainwater runoff, the rain gardens also beautify the surrounding landscape and enhance biodiversity.
