Get Involved for Coastal Protection

Coastal protection is a complex and long-term undertaking. Beyond protecting Singapore from rising seas, it is also an opportunity for us to reimagine and reshape our coastlines. Since 2022, PUB has been actively seeking ideas and feedback from the community and various key stakeholders in co-developing coastal protection solutions.

We have been conducting Our Coastal Conversation, a series of community dialogue sessions, as part of Forward SG, to discuss potential solutions and trade-offs and provide a platform for a diverse range of stakeholders to contribute their ideas. Many participants agreed that no single coastal protection measure would be able to meet all needs and were enthused by the exciting opportunities for multi-functional coastlines, which could be realised with prudent long-term planning that delivers multiple benefits.

In 2023, we organised a competition for students from local tertiary students to showcase their ideas of how coastal protection may look like when applied to Singapore’s south-eastern coastline. The winning entries demonstrated creativity in developing integrated solutions. At the same time, the youths presented their aspirations on how these spaces could in future add value to the people and surrounding nature.
